PRE-A1 STARTERS (PRE-A1)

This is the first of the three Cambridge English Qualifications designed for young learners.

These tests introduce children to everyday written and spoken English and are an excellent way for them to gain confidence and improve their English.

The tests are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Test format – paper-based

No. of papers – 3

Test length – about 45 minutes

Pre-A1 starters can help your child take their first step towards:

  • Understanding basic English content on the internet
  • Enjoying books, songs, television and films in English
  • Making friends globally.

A1 MOVERS – (A1)

This is the second exam created by Cambridge English Qualifications specifically for younger children.

All the exams for young learners are fun, colorful and activity based, motivating young children to learn.

These tests introduce children to everyday written and spoken English and are an excellent way for them to gain confidence and improve their English.

The tests are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

A1 movers can help your child:

  • Understand basic instructions or take in simple conversations.
  • Understand basic notices, instructions or information
  • Complete basic forms and write notes, including times, dates and places.

A2 FLYERS – A2

A2 Flyers is the 3rd of three Cambridge English Qualifications designed for young learners.

Tests length – about 1 hour 15 minutes.

A2 Flyers can help your child to:

  • Understand simple written English
  • Communicate in familiar situations
  • Understand and use basic phrases and expressions.
  • Interact with English speakers who talk slowly and clearly.

A2 KEY – A2 (KET)

It is an exam for school-age learners which will help prepare them for higher-level English qualifications.

An A2 key qualification shows that a student can use English to communicate in simple situations.

It is a logical next step after Cambridge English qualifications designed for young learners and a good place for older children to start learning English too.

A2 KEY Qualifications shows that a student can:

  • Understand and use basic phrases and expressions.
  • Understand simple written English
  • Introduce themselves and answer basic questions about themselves.
  • Interact with English speakers at a basic level.

B1 PRELIMINARY – B1

It is an English language exam that shows that students have mastered the basics of English and now has practical skills for everyday use.

This exam is the logical step in a student’s language learning journey between A2 and B2.

Test format – digital or paper-based

Exam length – about 2 hours 20 minutes.

A B1 Qualification shows that a student can:

  • Read simple textbooks and articles in English
  • Write letters and emails on everyday subjects
  • Understand factual information
  • Show awareness of opinions and mood in spoken and written English.

B2 FIRSTS – B2

This qualification gives students the confidence to use their English in the real world.

Test format – Digital or paper-based

Exam Length – About 3.5 hours.

B2 qualifications show that a student can:

  • Communicate effectively face-to-face expressing opinions and presenting arguments.
  • Write clear, detailed English expressing opinions and explaining the advantages and disadvantages of different points of view.
  • Follow the news
  • Write letters, reports, stories and lots of other types of texts.

C1 ADVANCED – C1

Formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)

C1 advanced qualification shows that a student can:

C2 PROFICIENCY – C2

Formerly known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)

It is the highest – level qualification proof that you are a highly competent speaker of English.

It shows the world that you have mastered English to an exceptional level.

It proves you can communicate with fluency and sophistication of a highly competent English speaker.

Preparing for, and passing the exam means you have the level of English that’s needed to study, or work in a very senior professional or academic environment, for example a post-graduate or PHD program.

Test format – digital or paper-based

Exam length – about 4 hours

A C2 proficiency qualification shows that you can:

  • Study demanding subjects at the highest level, including post-graduate and PHD programs.
  • Negotiate and persuade effectively at senior management level in international business settings.
  • Understand the main ideas of complex pieces of writing
  • Talk about complex or sensitive issues, and deal confidently with difficult questions
